RENTAL AGREEMENT FOR CAMPERIZED VEHICLE 

TICO OVERLAND RENTALS - TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE RENTAL AGREEMENT 

This rental agreement sets forth the terms and conditions under which Tico Overland  Rentals, a company registered in the National Registry of Costa Rica under 3102924191  S.R.L (hereinafter, "the Owner"), rents a vehicle with a rooftop tent and additional camping  equipment to the person or company (hereinafter, "the Renter"). 

By signing this agreement or confirming a reservation, the Renter agrees to comply with  the following terms:

DRIVER ELIGIBILITY 

Only following individuals are allowed to drive the rental vehicle: 

Those listed in the Rental Agreement as authorized drivers, who are 21 years of age or older and hold a valid and current driver’s license fully recognized in Costa Rica. 

INSURANCE AND COVERAGES 

The rental requires the acceptance of an insurance policy with the following coverages: 

  • Third-party property damage 
  • Collision and/or rollover (does not include equipment) 
  • Theft and burglary (does not include equipment) 
  • Additional risks for example hurricane or earthquake (does not include equipment) • Roadside assistance 

Selected Insurance Type: 

 Full Coverage With Deductible payment 

Third-party liability (damage to third parties), deductible 20% of the damage value if  above ¢750,000.00, or a fixed ¢150,000.00 if below this amount. 

Collision, rollover, theft, or burglary of the rental vehicle: Fixed deductible ¢400,000.00 Cost: $25 per day 

Security deposit: $1,500 

 Full Coverage Without Deductible payment 

Third-party liability, collision, rollover, theft, or burglary: $0 deductible Cost: $40 per day 

Security deposit: $1,000 

THE INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER: 

Water damage (from rivers, estuaries, flooded roads) 

Flat tires or tire damage 

Loss or theft of keys 

Chassis, suspension, or transmission damage due to improper off-road use Fire damage caused by incorrect use of cooking equipment 

Loss or damage to camping equipment

The Renter is fully responsible for the costs related to the above exclusions and any other conditions outlined in the Insurance Terms and Conditions document, which is annexed to this contract. 

VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT USAGE RESTRICTIONS 

The Renter agrees NOT to: 

Use the vehicle for commercial transport or delivery services. 

Sublet, lend, or transfer the vehicle or equipment to another person. Drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications that impair ability. Participate in races, competitions, or speed tests. 

Exceed the vehicle’s maximum passenger capacity. 

Use the vehicle for towing, pushing, or transporting hazardous materials. Transport animals without prior approval. 

Restricted Areas (Driving is strictly prohibited in the following conditions): 

 Beaches, rivers (with water deeper than 0.4m), estuaries, muddy roads,  flooded areas. In case of crossing the water less than 0.4m deep 4WD need to  be engaged. 

 Off-road trails requiring extreme 4x4 capabilities beyond the vehicle’s limits.  Private property or unmarked roads without permission. 

Additionally, the Renter must NOT: 

Drive with the rooftop tent open or unsecured. 

Drive recklessly (e.g., excessive speed, dangerous overtaking). 

Use cooking equipment inside the vehicle or in enclosed spaces (fire hazard). 

IMPORTANT: 

Any damage resulting from misuse, including water damage, improper off-road use,  fire damage, or failure to secure the rooftop tent, is the Renter’s full responsibility and not covered by insurance.

VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE 

The Renter is responsible for: 

Checking fluid levels (oil, coolant, brake fluid). 

Maintaining correct tire pressure. 

Using the appropriate fuel (diesel/gasoline/LPG as specified). 

Keeping the equipment clean and dry. 

Storing all camping gear securely while driving. 

Any lost or damaged equipment must be reported immediately. 

ACCIDENTS, BREAKDOWNS, AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 

In the event of an accident, breakdown, or theft, the Renter must: Immediately notify Tico Overland Rentals at +506 8838 0694. 

Contact emergency services (911) and the insurance company's inspection service at 800 INS to report the incident and file a report (mandatory for insurance claims). 

Obtain contact details of any third party involved. 

Take photos of the accident scene for documentation. 

Roadside assistance is provided only for mechanical failures NOT caused by driver negligence. 

LIABILITY WAIVER AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK FOR CAMPING EQUIPMENT 

The Renter acknowledges and assumes all risks of injury, death, or property damage resulting from the use of the provided equipment, including: 

Tents, rooftop tents, gas stoves, gas tanks, knives, cooking utensils, and any other gear supplied by Tico Overland Rentals. 

If any equipment appears damaged, faulty, or unsafe to use, the Renter must report it immediately and stop using it. 

The Renter is fully responsible for properly opening, closing, and using the rooftop tent. If the Renter falls from the ladder, the car, or is injured while using the tent, they assume full responsibility.

Safety Warning: 

Be cautious when climbing up and down the rooftop tent ladder. Ensure the ladder is fully  upright and stable before use. If unsure how to use the equipment, request a  demonstration from a Tico Overland Rentals employee when picking up the vehicle. 

Since the Renter and their group are camping and driving in a natural, unpredictable environment, Tico Overland Rentals does not accept liability for: 

Damage, injuries, or inconveniences caused by plants, trees, insects, wildlife, weather, water, fire, wind, or other natural elements. 

Any issues outside our control that negatively impact your trip. 

We will not cover hotel/accommodation costs or meals if you find the environment or weather unsuitable for camping and/or cooking. 

If Tico Overland Rentals is responsible for a loss during the rental period, our maximum  liability will be a refund of the rental amount proportional to the remaining days of the  booking. 

RETURN POLICY & VEHICLE CONDITION 

The Renter must return the vehicle: On the agreed date, time, and location as stated in  the Rental Agreement. During business hours as published on our Google Maps profile. With the same fuel level as when it was received. Free of excessive dirt, mud, or sand. 

Late Return Policy: 1–3 hours late: $20 per hour. More than 3 hours late: Charged as an  additional rental day. Failure to return the vehicle on time without notice may result in it  being reported as stolen. 

Cleaning Fee: A $50 fee will be charged if the vehicle or rooftop tent is returned  excessively dirty, requiring deep cleaning. 

TRAFFIC FINES & PENALTIES 

The Renter is responsible for:All traffic violations, parking fines, and toll charges incurred  during the rental period. A $50 administrative fee will be applied for processing fines in the  Renter's name. Unpaid fines may be deducted from the security deposit or charged to the  Renter’s credit card. 

DAMAGE, BREAKAGES & PENALTIES 

The Renter agrees to be fully responsible for any damage or destruction of: The rooftop tent and related camping equipment. 

Vehicle accessories and components. 

EQUIPMENT RETURN POLICY 

The Renter agrees to return all equipment in the same condition as received. It is recommended to inspect all items before starting the trip and report any issues.
